Coalition for Tribal Sovereignty Alert 9/25/2025

Please see this important update from the Coalition of Tribal Sovereignty on 9/25/2025:

“Unless Congress takes action to fund the federal government before October 1, 2025, the federal government will “shut down,” resulting in significant funding disruptions and potential harm to Indian Country.

Yesterday, September 24, the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) instructed all federal agencies to produce lists of workers to be laid off permanently if Congress has not acted to fund the government. This directive could devastate hundreds of programs serving Indian Country indefinitely if they are not appropriately exempted from layoffs. Contact administration officials to ensure they understand that Indian Country programs are: 1) required pursuant to the United States’ ongoing trust and treaty obligations; 2) consistent with the President’s stated priorities; and 3) essential due to their direct impact on the safety of human life.
